Project Coordinator Volunteer - CCBP Project

Position Description

Black Eco Bloom (BEB) is looking to add a Project Coordinator volunteer to our Climate Crisis from the Black Perspective Project team. Black Eco Bloom is a new sustainable development organization that focuses on supporting individuals who identify with the Black woman experience in their journeys in the environmental sector in Canada and abroad. We want to create a space that nurtures Black women, Black transgender women and Black non-binary individuals to be leaders in the environmental sector. Our volunteers will gain experience in a start-up environment and contribute to the growth of the organization.

 

About the role:

 

Climate Crisis from the Black Perspective (CCBP) focuses on highlighting Black stories and experiences with climate change and climate disasters around the world. These experiences offer insight into the Black perspective to create a space that focuses on how climate change impacts our communities.

 

Under the guidance of the Project Manager, the Project Coordinator volunteer will primarily assist with tasks and research to support the development of the project. This role works closely with the Communications Lead volunteer and Social Media and Marketing Team.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead and assist in conceptualizing and implementing the Climate Crisis from the Black Perspective Project

  • Research and keep up with the climate change and environmental news that affects Black communities globally and in Canada

  • Summarize research in a comprehensive and simplified format to be shared with members and followers on all social platforms

  • Draft analytical texts that examine the intersectionality of climate change and its impact on Black communities

  • Provide facilitation, research, and technical skills as necessary for the implementation of the project and programmes

  • Assist in developing strategies to increase the impact of the project

  • Complete tasks within specific deadlines

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with principles of climate, environmental and social justice, and anti-oppression theory

  • Previous experience working or volunteering in a non-profit and/or start-up environment is an asset

  • Experience working or volunteering with community groups, social movements and/ or civil society organizations -

  • Have excellent written and verbal communication, able to synthesize big picture ideas into sharp briefs (multiple languages highly valued)

  • Be organized, with excellent time management, project planning, and communication skills

  • Be highly motivated with a positive attitude

  • Strong relationship building and relationship management skills with strong conflict resolution skills is an asset

  • Remote and teamwork skills are required, along with the ability to complete tasks independently

  • Previous experience as a project coordinator or manager is an asset

  • Engaging written and visual communication skills is an asset

  • Some knowledge of SDGs is an asset
