
Communications Lead Volunteer
Position Description
Black Eco Bloom is looking to add to our Marketing and Communications team. Black Eco Bloom is a new sustainable development organization that focuses on supporting individuals who identify with the Black woman experience in their journeys in the environmental sector in Canada and abroad. We want to create a space that nurtures Black women, Black transgender women and Black non-binary individuals to be leaders in the environmental sector. Our volunteers will gain experience in a startup environment and contribute to the growth of the organization.
The role of the Communications Lead will be to research content ideas relevant to the organization's focus, assist in the creation of a social media strategy, and stay up to date on communications strategies for nonprofits. This role works closely with the Marketing & Social Media Lead volunteer.
Essential Responsibilities:

Research

Researching content for social media

Staying up to date about what is trending and relevant

Researching communications strategies

Collaborating with Co-directors and Marketing & Social Media Lead volunteer

Assisting in the creation of a social media and communications strategy

Collaborating with Marketing & Social Media Lead volunteer on content creation

Qualifications:
-
Completed or currently completing a degree, diploma or certificate in a Communications is considered an asset
-
Previous experience working as a communications coordinator or manager is preferred (Volunteer or professional experience applies)

Understanding of Communications strategies

Experience working in a non-profit/start up environment is an asset
-
Knowledge and understanding of graphic design platforms such as Canva
-
Familiarity with social media and marketing strategies and ability to create attractive and engaging content

Engaging written and visual communication skills

Some knowledge of SDGs is an asset

Previous experience coordinating social media in a sustainable or environmentally focused role
